Baroque opera in the Margravial Opera House

Bayreuth impresses with the Margravial Opera House, one of the most beautifully preserved baroque theatres in Europe. It has been

a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012 and is a backdrop for high-calibre opera performances.

The Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival 2025 is dedicated to Venetian opera and will celebrate the premiere of Francesco Cavalli's

Pompeo Magno on 4 September 2025. The production will be directed by Max Emanuel Cencic, with Leonardo García Alarcón and his ensemble Cappella Mediterranea in charge of choreography.

From 4 to 14 September 2025, the performances will take place at historical locations in Bayreuth, including the Margravial Opera House, Bayreuth Castle Church and the Church of The Order of St. George.

Highlights of the festival in addition to the premiere:

• 5 September 2025: Carlo Vistoli performs works by Cavalli, Cesti, Monteverdi and Stradella, accompanied by the Cappella Mediterranea under the direction of Leonardo García Alarcón.
• 7 September 2025: Malena Ernman performs together with L'Arpeggiata under the direction of Christina Pluhar.
• 10 September 2025: Julia Lezhneva & Franco Fagioli present a concert with the Orchestre de l'Opéra Royal under Stefan Plewniak.
